Ewing, NJ – Ursinus has stayed perfect against The College of New Jersey’s football team.
The Bears were playing against the Lions for the first time since 1972. And it took a late touchdown for Ursinus to stay perfect this time around.
Ursinus was able to defeat The College of New Jersey, 24-20, last night at Lions’ Stadium. TCNJ Head Coach Eric Hamilton was apart of both games, as he was a player in 1972.
The Lions dropped to 1-0 on the season, while Ursinus improves to 1-0.
TCNJ Quarterback Daniel Dugan went 28-for-50 for 275 yards. He threw zero touchdowns, but did throw an interception.
Dugan broke the pass attempts record in a game, which was previously set at 46. Chris James previously set that record in 2007.
He was one pass shy of breaking the completions record. Jay Donoghue set that record last year.
Glenn Grainger led TCNJ with 10 receptions for 81 yards. Fred Sprengel had four receptions for 63 yards. Justin Doniloski had seven receptions for 61 yards.
Patrick Chirchirllo had three receptions for 48 yards. Matt Rosati had two receptions for 14 yards. Ryan Baranowski had a reception for 8 yards.
Ursinus Quarterback Chris Curran went 27-for-47 for 379 yards. He threw three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Darius Jones led Ursinus with seven receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Lynady had one catch for 45 yards and a touchdown. Jerry Rahill had seven receptions for 98 yards.
Josh Williams had three receptions for 37 yards. Bryan Ellis had five receptions for 29 yards. Billy Highland had a reception for 22 yards.
Ursinus took the lead with 2:56 left in the game. Quarterback Chris Curran connected with Wide Receiver Ryan Lynady for a 45 yard touchdown.
There was broken coverage that allowed Lynady to break through the defense. He was nearly wide open with a TCNJ defender not far behind.
Before this touchdown drive, TCNJ had the lead throughout the game. Except when the game was tied at 17 points apiece.
TCNJ kicker Derrick Hughes gave the Lions a 20-17 lead with 2:46 left in the third quarter. He connected on a 28 yard field goal.
Minutes prior at 6:37, Ursinus tied the game at 17 all thanks to their kicker Eric Boyer, who connected on a 32-yard field goal.
In the second quarter, Ursinus relied on two Curran to Darius Jones touchdowns to stay in the game. At 11:50 in the second, Jones caught a 15 yard touchdown, then added a 46 yard touchdown at 1:35.
Jones’ first touchdown made it 14-7 TCNJ, then his second touchdown made it 17-14 TCNJ. At 8:48, Hughes gave the Lions the 17-14 lead after he connected on a 19 yard field goal.
The Lions scored both first quarter touchdowns. Justin Doniloski scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown at 10:22, then Daniel Dugan scored on a 5-yard rushing touchdown at 6:48.
