Newark, DE – On a very warm day at Delaware Stadium in Newark, the Delaware Blue Hens kicked their way to their latest win. The Blue Hens were able to defeat the Bucknell Bison, 19-3, this afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
Delaware improved to 3-0 with the win, while Bucknell dropped to 1-1.
“We needed a game like this before we move into league play,” Delaware head coach K.C. Keeler said. “We didn’t execute well in the first half and people are telling our kids how much they should be winning by. But our kids came out in the second half and didn’t panic and that was a positive.”

Delaware has now won six straight games over the past two seasons. It is the third-longest active streak in the nation at the FCS level.
Delaware quarterback Trent Hurley went 14-for-21 for 161 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception.
Wide receiver Michael Johnson had 5 receptions for 67 yards. Mike Milburn had 2 receptions for 26 yards. Jerel Harrison had two catches for 22 yards.
Running back Andrew Pierce had 22 rushes for 105 yards. Hurley added 14 rushes for 56 yards. David Hayes had 11 rushes for 25 yards, and Johnson had 1 catch for 13 yards.
Bucknell quarterback Brandon Wesley went 21-for-37 for 197 yards. He threw 1 interception.
Wide receiver Victor Walker had 6 catches for 74 yards. Jeremiah Young added four receptions for 42 yards. Young also had 11 rushes for 48 yards.
Nick Gatto added three receptions for 30 yards and Jake Flaherty added three receptions for 25 yards. Brandon Wesley added 9 rushes for 33 yards.
“Bucknell did a great job in the first half and got us a little off balance,” said Keeler. “Bucknell realized they couldn’t run the ball right at us. We settled down defensively in the second half and played a heck of a game.”
At 12:36 in the fourth quarter, Sean Baner kicked a 21-yard field goal.

In the third quarter, the Blue Hens scored 10 points. Quarterback Trent Hurley scored on an 11-yard rushing touchdown at 4:20, then Baner kicked a 32-yard field goal at 11:31.
In the second quarter, both teams scored on-field goals. Baner kicked a 20-yard field goal at 8:11, then at 14:56, Bucknell kicker Sean Cobelli kicked a 21-yard field goal.
Baner kicked a 41-yard field goal at 6:38 in the first quarter.
