The San Francisco 49ers apparently are willing to ride the hot hand.

Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick started in place of injured Alex Smith, and head coach Jim Harbaugh indicted that he is willing to ride with the hot hand. He said in his post-game press conference that he is willing to stick with Kaepernick.

Now, the 49ers have a quarterback controversy between Smith and Kaepernick. Harbaugh could have squashed the controversy, but he didn’t do that.

“We’ll see,” said Harbaugh. “I usually tend to go with the guy who has the hot hand. We got two quarterbacks who have a hot hand.”

Kaepernick could have replaced Smith as the 49ers starting quarterback now and into the future. Thus, Smith may be looking from the outside in for the time being.
