Manti Te’o, a Notre Dame senior linebacker, took time to do an interview with The Capital Sports Report in the Heisman press conference.

TCSR: You are the first Samoan descent player to be invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, as well as helping your team to an undefeated season. Could you talk about the undefeated season?

MT: “My team has worked hard to get to this point to be able to play for the National Championship game. It is very hard to go undefeated. I’m blessed to be apart of this team at this point in time.”

TCSR: As the attention has grown, Notre Dame has increased their fan base. What are your thoughts on that?

MT: “I think we definitely have more fans than before the season. A lot of people will be rooting for us against Alabama. It’s definitely nice to have more fans.”

TCSR: Did you talk to the previous Notre Dame Heisman winners?

MT: “Yeah, I’ve talked to Tim (Brown). We didn’t talk about the Heisman, though. We talked more so about this team. It is always nice for the alumni to come back and be able to talk to them.”

TCSR: What does Notre Dame know about itself now than before the season?

MT: “We have learned a lot. We have learned a lot about the offensive and defensive leaders on this team. A lot of players have stepped up since the beginning of the season. We, as a team, have helped each other to get to January 7th against Alabama.”

TCSR: What is your mindset for tonight?

MT: “My mind is on the National Championship to be honest. Today, I was able to take a nap for the first time – I took a nice 2-hour nap. After waking up, I worked out for an hour and a half. Then, I got in the shower and got ready for this event. It has been a perfect day.”
