Kliff Kingsbury has been named the Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach. He returns to his alma mater with this move.
Kingsbury was the Red Raiders quarterback from 1998 through 2002. As a player, he went 1,229 of 1,881 for 12,423 yards.

He also had 95 touchdown passes and 40 interceptions. As a player, he set 39 school records.

Now, Kingsbury will lead the new group of Red Raiders.
He comes back to Lubbock, Texas after serving as the Texas A&M Aggies offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He spent just one season in the role.
While with the Aggies, he helped guide an Aggies attack that included Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans. Kingsbury was a factor in Manziel winning the 2012 Heisman Trophy.
This will be his first head coaching opportunity. Before joining the Aggies coaching staff, he spent several seasons on the Houston Cougars coaching staff under head coach Kevin Sumlin.
He initially joined the Cougars as their offensive quality control coach in 2008 after playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League.
After spending two seasons as a quality control coach, Kingsbury spent one season as the quarterbacks coach in 2010. Then, in 2011, he was named the Cougars co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The Cougars led the nation in 2011 in total offense, passing offense, and scoring. He worked with and mentored Case Keenum, who is presently on the Houston Texans practice squad.
He is regarded as one of the most celebrated players in the history of the Red Raiders football program. Kingsbury is taking over a team that went 7-5 this season and will play Minnesota in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Texas on December 28th.
