Cierre Wood, a Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back, says he has declared for the NFL Draft. Wood had 742 yards and four touchdowns this season.
He averaged 6.5 yards per carry. According to ESPN Scouts Inc., he’s the 16th-best draft eligible running back.
“Having to make a decision like whether to stay in school or leave to pursue a life-long dream of playing in the NFL is never simple,” he said. “I had to weigh many factors over the last month, but ultimately, it came down to what I felt was the right decision that would most benefit my family.”
In his final game with the team, he could muster only two yards on four carries in the Fighting Irish’ 42-14 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS National Championship game.
In his first two seasons, he had 1,705 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Wood has a one-year-old daughter, which obviously factored into his decision.
“Cierre has been an important member of our football team in my three-years at Notre Dame” head coach Brian Kelly said. “And I appreciate all he did to helpmeet our program back on top. I wish him well in the future and hope he has a successful playing career at the next level.”
