Next year, the X Games are transitioning to Austin, Texas their new home for years to come. But a legendary X Games competitor will not compete there.
That is because 41-year-old Kevin Robinson called it a career. He gave it one last try, before his body told him to go away from action sports.
The past two years, he has been calling much of the X Games action. In his career, he is a 9-time medalist, including three gold medals in X Games Big Air.
In his final Big Air competition, he finished in 6th place. He would get an 86.00 in his final attempt on the 4th run, but it was 5.66 off of Morgan Wade’s event best 91.66 for the gold medal.
“My 3 reasons for keeping it safe tonight!,” said Robinson before the event. “My kids are what I live for now! I live through their success. That was an amazing last contest for me. Couldn’t ask for a better ending! Love you all!”
It was an emotional scene when Robinson walked away from the action sports scene. It was his first X Games competition since 2010 when he dislocated his shoulder during the BMX Freestyle Vert Final during X Games 16.
Robinson, who needs hip surgery, didn’t go for the highest moves, as he would do in his younger years. Yet, he still holds a world record with the BMX high air word record at 27 feet.
Now, with his retirement, he will continue to work with kids through his K-Rob Foundation.
