The Seattle Seahawks have one of the best defensive secondary’s in the league.
According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Seahawks are close to releasing veteran Antoine Winfield. If this is the case, he would not even make it through training camp after signing with the team as a free agent.
Seattle is going to attempt to trade the 36-year-old before releasing him outright. Winfield was reportedly the fifth cornerback in the rotation, as Walter Thurmond III and Jeremy Lane back up starters Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman.
When Winfield was a free agent, the Vikings tried to re-sign him. The Washington Redskins also attempted to sign him. However, neither team was successful in doing so prior to joining the Seahawks.
The Denver Broncos could sign Winfield once he is released. They are not willing to trade for Winfield, according to the report.
Winfield has played in a 191 games in his career between the Vikings and the Buffalo Bills. He has made a 173 starts between both teams.
In his career, he has 7.5 sacks and 27 interceptions for 259 yards. He has also taken 2 touchdowns back for a touchdown.
