Peyton Manning may not make it through the 2015 season with the Denver Broncos, but Manuel Ramirez will.
Ramirez is the starting center, and has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2015 season. He snaps the ball to Manning, who is on the downside of his career.
He is the new center after Dan Koppen went down with an injury to end his season during training camp. Ramirez, who is a converted guard, beat out Ryan Lilja for the starting role.
He was graded as a top-eight center in Pro Football Focus’ 2013 preseason ratings. And was in the final year of his contract before signing the two-year extension.
This is Ramirez’s this season with the Broncos, and was drafted in the 2007 NFL draft out of Texas Tech. He played in 15 games for the Broncos last season, besides two games in 2011.
He was a member of the Detroit Lions from 2007 through the 2009 season. In his first two years, he played in 5 games before playing in 13 games in 2009.
