Rays win 4-0 over Yankees in Mariano Rivera’s final home game

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees. The Rays won 4-0 over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

With the win, the Rays improved to 90-69 on the season. The Yankees fell to 82-77.

The Rays moved closer to clinching a postseason berth with the win. They have now won seven straight games.

They swept the three-game series with the Yankees. The Rays also won their four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles in their previous series.

This game also marked the end of Mariano Rivera’s home career. He pitched 1 1/3rd innings in front of the home fans before the team went on the road to finish his career.

In the top of the 8th inning, Evan Longoria singled to center field off Dellin Betances. On the play, Ben Zobrist and James Loney scored.

Delmon Young hit a solo home run off Iván Nova in the top of the seventh inning. The Rays went up 2-0 on this play.

Longoria hit a single to left field in the top of the 4th inning. Wil Myers scored on the play.

Rays pitcher Alex Cobb picked up the win and improved to 11-3 on the season. He went seven innings and allowed three hits.

Cobb struck out four batters and walked two.

Yankees pitcher Nova received the loss and dropped to 9-6 overall. He allowed two earned runs and pitched seven innings.

He struck out five batters and walked one.
