Southern California (USC) Trojans head football coach Lane Kiffin has been fired. According to reports, Kiffin was fired in the parking lot of LAX International Airport after the team returned from Arizona.

On Saturday night, the team played in Tempe, Arizona, losing 62-41 to Arizona State.

The Trojans will now turn to an interim head coach to finish the season.

As the Trojans head coach, he went 28-15. This included a 17-12 mark within the Pac-10/Pac-12 Conference.

Kiffin will likely sit out the rest of this season before seeking employment elsewhere at the end of the season. He could potentially sit out next season, as the Trojans pay him before eventually landing on his feet with another opportunity.

The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that Athletic Director Pat Haden met with advisers when Arizona State went on a 28-0 run in the third quarter. That reportedly made up his mind to fire Kiffin.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio will emerge as the top candidate for the position.

This season, Kiffin decided to go with a two-quarterback system. But both quarterbacks have struggled, and neither one has stepped up to be the guy.

The Trojans entered this season as the No. 24 ranked team in the preseason of the Associated Press Top 25. But would drop out of the Top 25 in week three.
