This could be Michael Vick’s final season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick’s contract is up and he is expected to be a free agent in March.

Yet, while he played sparingly after the first month of the 2013 season, this could be his best season with the Eagles. While one would immediately look at that and say that’s not possible.

But if you dig deeper, you will find out that it was his best season – and it didn’t happen on the field. Last July, the Eagles were facing a public relations nightmare when wide receiver Riley Cooper’s video came to light.

In the video, Cooper was attending a Kenny Chesney concert in June and was caught saying the “ni**er” word to a black security guard. Many teammates questioned Cooper immediately.

Yet, it was Vick that stepped up to the cameras and supported Cooper. Without Vick’s support, this issue could have lasted longer than just a few weeks.

Since August, there’s been little to no mention of the incident. This helped Cooper be accepted into the locker room again.

And after the saga ended, Cooper would be able to return to focusing on his task at hand: replacing Jeremy Maclin. As the Eagles’ new No. 2 wide receiver, Cooper had 47 receptions for 835 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Vick was also a big supporter of Nick Foles when the team made the switch to Foles in early October. With Foles leading the team, the Eagles went 9-3 since October 6th.

Under Vick, the team started off 1-3, before being replaced in the New York Giants game on October 6th. With Vick sidelined, he would cheer on Foles and the rest of his teammates through their journey to the playoffs.

While Vick was a hated figure when he came to Philadelphia in 2009, he is going to end his tenure as a fixed individual, who helped save the Eagles’ 2013 season.
