Seattle Seahawks win the first cold weather Super Bowl

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos to win Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks won 43-8 over the Broncos at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

This was the first cold-weather Super Bowl in Super Bowl history, and it was also the first Super Bowl in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.

The game temperature was 49 degrees, so it wasn’t as cold as the weather experts said it would be in the 30s.

The Seahawks are now 1-3 in the big game. Malcolm Smith was named the Super Bowl MVP.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson went 18 of 25 for 206 yards. He had two touchdown passes.

Percy Harvin had two carries for 45 yards. Doug Baldwin had five receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown.

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning went 34 of 49 for 280 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception.

Knowshown Moreno had five carries for 17 yards. Demaryius Thomas had 13 receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown.

Manning’s 34 completions and Thomas’ 13 receptions set Super Bowl records.

The Seahawks outscored the Broncos 21-8 in the second half. Wilson hit Baldwin for a 10-yard touchdown reception.

Wilson hit Jermaine Kearse for a 23-yard touchdown reception. Harvin scored on an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Broncos’ Manning hit Thomas for a 14-yard touchdown reception. Following this score, Manning hit Wes Welker to complete the two-point conversion.

Seattle led 22-0 at halftime. Malcolm Smith returned an interception for a 69-yard touchdown. Marshawn Lynch scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Stephen Hauschka made two field goals. He first made a 31-yard field goal. He also made a 33-yard field goal.

This was also the first Super Bowl to begin the scoring with a safety. Moreno was tackled in the end zone by Cliff Avril for the safety.

Plus, this was the fastest score to open a game in Super Bowl history.
