“They’re not going to post it until next week so I can’t say where yet, but it’s a I-A job,” Acosta said when reached by phone Wednesday via the Delco Times. “There are transitions happening that they have to wait on. I have to wait until that happens.”

He will begin his new position in the coming days. Acosta said that he was a candidate for several other jobs.

But ultimately accepted this coaching position.

“I don’t know if it’s I’m a good person, or if they like the offense, but it’s flattering,” he said.

This is now the second straight year that Widener is going to be on the search for a new head coach. Former head coach Isaac Collins departed the program before Acosta to accept the coaching position at Division II Seton Hill in Western Pennsylvania.

Mark Fetterman has been named the interim head coach until a permanent coach will be hired. Fetterman had been the team’s defensive coordinator.

“That’s the head coach right there,” Acosta said. “they may have to hire an offensive coordinator, but I think Mark would be a perfect choice to take over the program.”

This was Acosta’s first head coaching opportunity. Before accepting the Widener head coaching position, he was The College of New Jersey offensive coordinator.
