The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to get back their young star Steven Stamkos on Thursday. While Stamkos returns to the team, the Bolts say goodbye to one of their longest team members.
The Lightning have traded Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers.

St. Louis has told his teammates that he has been traded to the Rangers. In exchange for St. Louis, the Lightning will receive forward Ryan Callahan, a 2015 first-round pick, and a 2014 second-round pick.

If the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Finals, then Tampa Bay would receive the Rangers 2014 first-round pick. And with the East wide open right now, there’s a chance the Lightning could get two first-round picks for St. Louis.
In the deal, both teams swap captains for each other. While St. Louis is under contract, Callahan is a rental and is expected to be a free agent after the Lightning season ends in six weeks.
This is the biggest deal of the trade deadline. And should Callahan sign an extension with the Lightning, the Rangers will get a conditional pick late in the draft.

St. Louis had been with the Lightning since the summer of 2000 when he signed as a free agent. He came to Tampa Bay after playing the 1999-2000 season with the Calgary Flames.
The 38-year-old St. Louis has in 1,041 games in his career with 369 goals. He also has 604 assists for 973 points in his career.
The 28-year-old Callahan has 132 goals in 450 NHL games. He also has 122 assists for 254 points in his career.
