There are many fans in the Carolina region that may be upset that the team released long-time wide receiver Steve Smith.

Smith, who was disappointed about the released, is trying to soften the blow. According to his tweet, Smith will have a message in the Charlotte Observer tomorrow.

Smith was a member of the Carolina Panthers from 2001 through 2013. He had 836 receptions for 12,197 yards and 67 touchdowns in his Panthers career.

All three of those are Panthers records. In addition, he is the 35th player to have 10,000 receiving yards in their career.

After back-to-back 1,000 plus receiving yardage seasons, Smith fell off a bit. He played in 15 games, where he had 64 receptions for 745 yards and four touchdowns.

A day after being released by the Panthers, he signed a three-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
