The Philadelphia Union has made a trade this morning with the Montreal Impact. The Union sent Jack McInerney packing to North of the Border.
In exchange for the striker, the Union received forward Andrew Wenger.
McInerney will playing for his second team in Major League Soccer after being drafted by the Union. He was their first overall pick, and seventh overall, during the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
In 95 games, he had 25 goals and four assists with the Union. He also had 53 starts and played 5,059 minutes for the Chester, PA-based team.
McInerney also was able to score three times in six Lamar Hunt U.S. Open matches while playing for the Union.
“We’d like to thank Andrew for everything he did both on and off the field for this club,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “He is a very talented player who played an important role in the history of this club as we transitioned into MLS. We wish him all the best moving forward.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to bring in a player of Jack McInerney’s quality. At a young age, he’s already showed the ability to score goals in this league and we feel his qualities and soccer sense fit well within our style of play.”
The 21-year-old McInerney led the Union over the past two seasons in scoring. He had 12 goals in 25 games last season, and also was named to the MLS All-Star team.
The 23-year-old Wenger joins the Union with 6 goals in 51 appearances. He was a member of the Impact from 2012 up until today when he became a member of the Union.
