Ovechkin severely hurt at the IIHF World Championships

The Washington Capitals are nervously awaiting the diagnosis of their star forward Alex Ovechkin. He has been taken to a local hospital after leaving the arena in an ambulance.

According to Sports-express.ru reporter Slava Malamud, “It’s pretty bad.” However, at press time, we do not have an update on his condition.

Ovechkin was injured in the Russia vs. Germany game in the third period when he collided with German forward Marcus Kink at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.

He was lying on the ground for several minutes before he was able to go to the locker room.

While the Capitals are in the off-season, if it’s a serious injury, there’s a very good chance that he could miss portions, if not all of next season.

Ovechkin is coming off a season, where he appeared in 78 games for the Capitals. He had 51 goals on the season. He also had 28 assists for 79 points overall.

He surpassed 50 goals for the first time in a season since he had 50 goals during the 2009-10 season.

If Ovechkin is out an extended period of time, it would be a devastating blow for the Capitals, as he is such a key piece to their franchise.
