Wide receiver Brandon Marshall and quarterback Jay Cutler will be together for a few more years. At least that’s what you would expect now.

After re-signing Cutler to a massive deal this off-season, the team targeted Marshall as another piece they would like to keep for the long term.

Marshall also announced on The View on ABC this morning that he signed a three-year extension with the team.

His new contract is three years, $40 million. At press time, it is not clear how much Marshall is receiving in guaranteed money.

He also announced that $1 million of the $40 million will be donated to the Mental Health Community.

Marshall had 100 receptions for 1,295 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He has averaged over 80 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards since the 2007 season.

The Chicago Tribune reported last month that they did not expect Marshall would sign a new contract prior to training camp. Five weeks later, his contract is done.

Before the extension, he was entering the final year of his contract and he was set to make $9.1 million this season. He previously said that “his play will force them to sign me” after the season.

Alshon Jeffrey led the Bears with 1,421 yards on 89 receptions. Marshall was the second-best receiver on the roster with the aforementioned 1,295 yards.
