The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to move inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons around.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirms that the team will move Timmons from a “Mack” to “Buck” linebacker. Steelers first-round draft pick Ryan Shazier is expected to be the team’s new “Mack” linebacker.
While Timmons will be the new “Buck” linebacker, he will also be called on to rush off the edge in a three-point stance. He has played traditionally outside linebacker in his career.
“We’re very comfortable with being able to move Lawrence around,” stated Tomlin.
With the change, Timmons is expected to be a 100-tackle machine. He has had more than a 100 tackles in three of the past four years.
He had a 126 tackles last year, then 106 tackles in 2012. He had just 93 tackles in 2011, after having a career-high 135 tackles in 2010.
He has missed just two games in his career, which came during the 2009 season.
