James Gayle will have to give up on his NFL dream for now.

Gayle, who signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent, will have to undergo shoulder surgery. The Virginia Tech product could sign with an NFL team as a practice squad member later this season.

He has a relentless motor, but his injury has caused him a chance to make the Titans 53-man roster.

He signed with the Titans on May 10th. He also has NFL bloodlines, as his uncle is former Chicago Bears Super Bowl defensive back Shaun Gayle.

The younger Gayle started 39 games for the Hokies, and had 40.5 career tackles for a loss and 22 sacks.

He ran 4.7 flat at the Combine, and had a 10-foot-2 broad jump. He also had a 37-inch verticle, which displayed top-notch athleticism at 6-foot-4, 259 pounds.
