Soccer was one of Emilio Hoffman’s favorite sports.
On Tuesday, the Reynolds High School freshman had his life taken away by a gunman in the boy’s locker room, just two days before the end of the school year. Hoffman was a midfielder for the Reynolds soccer team.
He was a junior varsity member, and was expected to compete for a starting role in the fall, according to his head coach Allan Berry before his life ended with a bullet. As the Oregon community mourns his death, the Portland Timbers honored him.
In the Timbers honored him in the 29th minute in their game Wednesday night. They are currently losing 2-1 to FC Dallas with just minutes left to play.
The professional soccer team picked the 29th minute, as that was Hoffman’s jersey number.
