San Francisco Giants Bruce Bochy has announced that second baseman Marco Scutaro was sore after his first rehab start. On Tuesday, Scutaro played in a game with the rookie-level Arizona League Giants.
In his rehab assignment, he played three innings in his first action since spring training. He underwent a procedure to do blood-spinning in his system in May to attempt to help his chronic back issue.
The 38-year-old has not played in a game this season. He last played in a game last season when he played in a 127 games.
In 2013, he had a .297 batting average with two home runs and 31 RBI’s. One year prior, his first year in San Francisco, he had a .306 batting average with seven home runs and 74 RBI’s.
Besides the Giants, he has played for the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, and the New York Mets. His back issue could cause the end to his playing career.
