He was in a 2006 Chevy, and the vehicle reportedly missed a stop sign at the intersection, going through the road into a churchyard. According to police officials, the vehicle was out of control for 450 feet.
The vehicle also overturned, ejecting the four passengers inside. Lutzenkirchen was 23-year-old.
It is not clear if alcohol played a part in this accident.
Lutzenkirchen was a member of the 2010 Auburn Tigers college football team that defeated the Oregon Ducks for the BCS National Championship game. The Tigers beat the Ducks, 22-19, after a 19-yard field goal by kicker Wes Bryant.
With the Tigers, he had 59 receptions for 628 yards and 14 touchdowns in his college career.
Last year, he attempted to make a National Football League roster. He was signed to the St. Louis Rams training camp, before failing to make the roster.
After the failed attempt in the NFL, he began to look at a new career in finance.
