New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham will learn this week if he’s going to be paid like a wide receiver or tight end.

According to Pro Football Talk, a ruling will come down in the coming days on Graham’s franchise tag designation. They are also reporting that the losing side will also appeal the decision.

Graham, who says that he’s a tight end on Twitter, wants to be paid like a wide receiver. This decision could cost him $5.3 million dollars if he’s ruled to be a tight end.

If he’s paid like a wide receiver, he’s eligible to make $12 million. If he stays a tight end, he’s only eligible to be paid $7 million.

The Saints tagged Graham as a tight end. However, the NFL Players Association has been arguing against the Saints saying that he should be paid like a wide receiver.

Graham took 67% of his snaps last season from the slot or out wide, like a wide receiver.

There could be a compromise between the two sides after the ruling. This will depend if the Saints are willing to pay Graham half of the $5.3 million.

The 27-year-old had 86 receptions for 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had a career-high six games of over 100 receiving yards.
