St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright doesn’t like social media. He is going to hate it even more after the All-Star game.

Wainwright made a comment about giving New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter easy pitches to hit in the first inning, and it blew up on social media.

“I was gonna give him a couple of pipe shots,” Wainwright said to reporters. “He deserved it. I didn’t know he was gonna hit a double or I might have changed my mind.”

Wainwright had to talk to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews about his comments in the top of the 9th inning. The American League just defeated the National League, 5-3.

“It was taken the wrong way,” Wainwright said. “I’m not going to take any credit away from what Derek Jeter has done. It was miss said, and I made a mistake about that.”

Jeter hit a double in the first inning that helped the American League score three first-inning runs. He then added a single in the third inning.

“I said yesterday that I did not want to allow Jeter to get a hit,” Wainwright said. “I sincerely apologize for the comments.”

In February before the MLB season began, Jeter announced that the 2014 season would be his final campaign. The Pequannock Township, New Jersey native made his MLB debut on May 29th, 1995.

Jeter made his 14th and final All-Star game appearance. He also played in the All-Star Game from 1998 through 2002, 2004, and again from 2006 through 2012.
