Jeter has also scored a run in the game, as he looks to be named the game’s MVP. In 2001, legendary Baltimore Orioles third baseman Cal Ripken Jr. was named the game’s MVP in his last All-Star game by a position player.
He was lifted in the fourth inning, as he got a curtain call and was congratulated by his American League teammates.
“I thought it was great,” Jeter said of being lifted. “It was a special moment that was unscripted. They have been respectful of me at home and on the road. I then saw Alexei (Ramirez) coming out to replace me.”
According to ESPN’s Stats and Information, Jeter has the second-highest batting average in All-Star Game history. Jeter has a .481 batting average.
