The Philadelphia Soul have been holding on for much of the season. The team has been devastated by injuries to key players and losses in very close games.
Yet, they are still fighting for a playoff spot, as they look to make the playoffs for the third straight year. After back-to-back tough losses to the Cleveland Gladiators and the Pittsburgh Power, the Soul has not lost a game.
They knew they had to win four straight games to make the playoffs since the Gladiators loss on June 21st. Both losses to the Gladiators and the Power were by one point on the final play of the game.
The Soul has won three straight games and now have a one-game lead on the Tampa Bay Storm for the final playoff spot.
Philadelphia hopes to win their fourth game in the regular season finale at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The game will be televised on The Comcast Network in the Philadelphia area at 5 pm.
If they take care of business in the Steel City, the Soul would still have to wait a few hours to officially learn if they’ve made the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Storm host the Gladiators at Tampa with the game starting two and a half hours after the Soul game at 7:30 pm.
The Storm gave the Soul even more hope on Monday night when the Storm lost a thriller to the Spokane Shock. With a 55-52 loss to the Shock, the Storm now dropped to 8-9 on the season.
The Soul needed the Storm to lose both games in order to back into the playoff picture with the 4th and final spot. If both teams tie at 9-9 on the season, the Storm would advance to the playoffs, as they hold the tiebreaker.
The Storm hold the tiebreaker, as they defeated the Soul two out of the three meetings this season.
