“You never know what to expect with this format, but we just tried to put together a solid lap each time. That first round, man, the car was just hooked up. I knew we had something special.”
The longtime driver broke the qualifying record that was previously set one year ago. Ryan Newman set the record that Harvick broke in 2013.
Newman went 187.531 mph to set the pole speed record at the time.
Harvick will lead the field for Sunday’s Crown Royal Presents The John Wayne Walding 400.
He has two wins this season. However, Harvick has not won since the eighth race of the season during the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on April 12th, 2014, in Darlington, South Carolina.
This is Harvick’s fourth pole of the season.
