The Lakers are the last team to hire a head coach. Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers were the last team to hire a head coach when they hire Brett Brown, and it was a disaster season.

Brown coached the 76ers through a26-game losing streak. In addition, they finished with the second-to-last record, as only the Milwaukee Bucks had a worse record.

Scott is taking over a team that is expected to struggle next season. Star Kobe Bryant is expected to miss significant time, as he recovers from injury.

Plus, Steve Nash and Carlos Boozer are on the down side of their careers.

Yet, Scott wanted this position, and Bryant wanted Scott to be his head coach. The Lakers missed the playoffs last season after being bounced in the first round in 2012-13.

This is Scott’s first head coaching position since being fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013. He struggled coaching the Cavs young talent in his three years there from 2010 through 2013.

He was also the New Orleans Hornets and the New Jersey Nets head coach. With the Nets, he guided the team to back-to-back NBAFinals in 2002 and2003,losing to the Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.
