The Toronto FC soccer club took a hit to their lineup today. The team announced that Jermain Defoe will miss nearly a month while he recovers from his injury.

Defoe has been diagnosed with a groin strain that will keep him out for the next 2-3 weeks. That is at least an early time frame as the injury could potentially last longer than that.

This injury will cause Defoe to miss the MLS All-Star game in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday. Now, Michael Bradley will be the lone Toronto FC player at the game.

Defoe, who sat out Saturday’s game, has reportedly been dealing with this injury for the past few weeks. The team originally thought it was a sports hernia and underwent medical tests on Sunday to determine it was just a strain.

The England native, who came to Toronto FC this past January, started 14 of the 15 games this season. He has played in 1,242 minutes with 11 goals and two assists.

He last played for Toronto FC during a 3-0 loss to D.C. United on July 30th. He played 72 minutes in the game.

Before the game on July 30th, he suited up for the team on July 19th in a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo. He played in 28 minutes in this particular contest.

The 28 minutes were the fewest he played in a game since joining Toronto FC. His previous lowest in MLS was 61 minutes in a 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on March 29th.
