Before training camp started, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released often-injured guard Carl Nicks. The Bucs are now targeting Alex Boone to replace Nicks.

Boone, who has been reportedly on the trade block by the San Francisco 49ers, is holding out, as he feels the 49ers hasn’t offered him enough money. The Bucs are interested in trading for Boone, as long as it is the right price.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bucs are “interested in building from within, but there’s a real interest in Boone.” He is also reporting that a trade would cost the Bucs a mid-round pick.

The new Bucs reigme is looking to win now, and they are looking to protect 35-year-old quarterback Josh McCown. First-year GM Jason Licht is reportedly exploring all avenues to improve the team.

Boone, who is 27-years-old, has played the past four years with the Niners. If he is dealt to the Bucs, he would immediately give them a dominant blocker, who would fortify the line right away.

He has played in all 16 games over the past three years. He only played in one game as a rookie in 2010.
