The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a game plan of resting running back Doug Martin more this season.
Martin, who has been the lone bright spot for the team in recent years, will now have to be without his backup Charles Sims for at least the first 10 weeks of the season. Sims had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right ankle today.
While there’s a chance he could return, there’s also speculation that the Bucs may just hold him out for the rest of the season. He was placed on the injured reserve/designated for return.
He suffered the injury in Tuesday’s practice and was in a walking boot afterwards.
