With both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel struggling on Monday Night Football, the Cleveland Browns are expected to name Brian Hoyer the starter for the regular season tomorrow.
It is not a surprising move, as Hoyer is the veteran with just four starts in his career. He will lead the team into action against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 7th at 1 pm on CBS.
Tonight, Hoyer went 2-of-6 for 16 starts in the Browns second preseason game against the Washington Redskins. Both Hoyer and Manziel rotated the every two series of the first half.
The veteran missed a wide-open Andrew Hawkins in the end zone that would have given the Browns a touchdown. Instead, he hit Hawkins in his feet.
In two preseason games, Hoyer has gone 8-of-20 for 108 yards. He’s also expected to get the Browns start in the third preseason game later this week on Saturday night against the St. Louis Rams.
Manziel went 7-of-16 for 65 yards and a touchdown. In the second half, he led a nice 16-play drive against the Skins back-ups with Dion Lewis scoring on an 8-yard catch-and-run into the end zone.
Recently, Manziel said that he isn’t ready to start Week 1.
