Gray went 6.641 seconds to Connolly’s 27.45. Connolly was averaging 6.614 in the previous three rounds.

“I don’t know what to say,” Gray said. “I’m speechless. It’s awesome. I want to say thank you to everyone involved at Gray Motorsports.”

Connolly is now 1-2 in final rounds this season, losing to Erica Enders-Stevens and today’s loss. He was also the Indianapolis runner-up in 2006.

Connolly won his previous Indianapolis attempts in 2007, 2008, and 2012. Gray now has three career wins, including the first U.S. Nationals wally.
