Rajon Rondo will have to undergo another test before he’s able to step back onto the court for tomorrow night’s season opener. The imaging test will come after today’s practice.

Rondo, recently told first-year head coach Brad Stevens, that he’s only 83 %. The star point guard has been dealing with a hand injury.

“[Rondo] has one more imaging [test on his hand] after practice [Tuesday] and then they’ll go from there,” Stevens said, according to Chris Forsberg. “I think it’s more about his comfort level right now. I think [the trainers] feel like he’s progressed well and healed appropriately. I just asked him what he wants me to say and he said, ‘Tell [the media] I’m 83 percent.’ I said I’ll just tell them you’re five-sixths of the way there.”

Once he’s ready to go, there will not be any restrictions on his play, according to Stevens. Should he pass the test today, he is expected to be in the starting lineup against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night.

If things do not work out and he fails the test, then rookie Marcus Smart will start.

Rondo went through a full practice yesterday and is expected to do the same today. Early indications are that he’ll play four to five-minute stints when he’s on the floor.

In 30 games during the 2013-14 season, he averaged 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks.

He’s only played in 68 games in the past two years. In addition, he hasn’t played nearly a full season since 2009-10 when he played in 81 games.

During the 2012-13 season, in which he was an All-Star, the then-26-year-old averaged 13.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 11.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.2 blocks.

Before these back-to-back 30 and 38 games respectively, these were the fewest amount of games he has played in a season with the Celtics since he played in 53 games during the 2011-12 season.
