It was originally thought that the Ohio State Buckeyes would take a hit when quarterback Braxton Miller was lost for the year before the first game of the season. Instead, red-shirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett has filled in quite well.
In fact, under Barrett, the Buckeyes scored their fifth 50-point performance of the season. In the past two seasons under Miller, the team had nine 50-point performances.
The Buckeyes are averaging 44.3 points per game, which is eighth overall and fourth in the FBS in points per game, according to ESPN. Their opponent next week is Michigan State Spartans, which is fifth overall at 45.5 ppg.
On Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio, the Buckeyes defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini, 55-14. This was their fifth 50-point game in the past six weeks.
Last week, Ohio State defeated Penn State 31-24 in overtime in the only none 50-point performance in this stretch.
The 55-points were the third most points this season in a game. Against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on October 18th, Ohio State won 56-17.
On September 13th, the Buckeyes shut out the Kent State Golden Flashes 66-0. This game is Ohio State’s lone shutout on the season.
