Boston Celtics drafted point guard Marcus Smart to eventually take over for Rajon Rondo. But after tonight, the team may be forced to keep Rondo longer than they’ve wanted.

Smart was taken off the court on a stretcher. He reportedly suffered a bad ankle injury.

The injury did not look good, and he’s currently headed for X-rays. Depending on what they show the doctors, everything is just a judgment call right now.

The team is hoping that it is a short-term injury. With Smart out, Marcus Thornton is expected to get increased time.

He suffered the injury on a fast break at 11:07 left in the fourth quarter against the Indiana Pacers. It looked like his ankle rolled on the play, as he was fouled.

After the injury, he was yelling in pain from the floor. Then, as he was taken off the court on a stretcher, he signaled thumps up to the crowd.
