The Carolina Panthers have announced that they’ve released running back Chris Ogbonnaya. In a corresponding move, the team has signed defensive tackle Micanor Regis from their practice squad.
Regis will be No. 72 for the team. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder was signed by the team during training camp. Then after being released, he was signed to the practice squad, where he was a member until his promotion today.
The defensive tackle came into the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free agent in 2012 with the Atlanta Falcons out of the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes.
That year, he was on the team’s practice squad for the regular season and postseason.
In 2013, he was with the Falcons during training camp, before being released in the final cuts.
Ogbonnaya has played in 5 games this season with the Panthers. He had 14 rushes for 50 yards and a touchdown in his tenure in Carolina.
He’s also played three seasons with the Cleveland Browns and two games with the St. Louis Rams as a rookie in 2009.
