The Auburn Tigers have announced that they’ve fired defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson. This news comes less than 24 after the Tigers lost the Iron Bowl.
Johnson’s unit gave up 55 points to the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the team has lost three of their last four games. The 55 points give up to their heated rival has put the nail in his coffin, so to speak.
He was in his second year as the defensive coordinator. He came to the Tigers after previously being the head coach at Southern Miss.
With this job now open, one can only guess that it will be linked to former Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp. He’s also expected to be a candidate for the Texas A&M Aggies defensive coordinator job, as well after Mark Snyder was fired on Friday.
Muschamp is considered the top defensive coordinator on the market. He struggled as the Gators head coach, especially against Florida State and Georgia.
He was the Texas Longhorns coach-in-waiting/defensive coordinator when he accepted the Gators job.
