What sponsorship? Shawn Langdon and Alan Johnson Racing has been without a major sponsorship since the off-season. Yet, the team showed that they could compete, even with a minor sponsorship.

Langdon has won the Circle K Winternationals with Knuckle Sandwich on the sides of the Top Fuel dragster at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, California. Guy Fieri, the owner of Knuckle Sandwich, picked up his first wally as a sponsor.

The former Al-Anabi Racing driver picked up a win over Antron Brown of Don Schumacher Racing. Langdon went 3.799 to Brown’s 3.804.

“I wish I knew,” Langdon said of the early success. “I would have it at every single race. I can’t say enough about all these crew guys. They have been busting their butts all winter long. With how everything has gone in the last month, it’s been a lot of ups and downs. One thing that was a constant was our faith in the team.”

This is the third straight win for Alan Johnson at the Circle K Winternationals. The previous two were under the Al-Anabi sponsorship that was lost in the off-season when Qatar was not able to fund the team anymore.

Langdon is also the first No. 1 qualifier to win the race since ESPN analyst Mike Dunn. Brown was the No. 11 qualifier, yet Langdon is the points leader.

The Alan Johnson Racing team hopes this win can help them garner sponsorship for the rest of the season. Right now, they only had this race and the Phoenix race in two weeks under sponsorship.

“We want to race the 2015 season, but we’re looking for sponsors,” Langdon mentioned. “Guy Fieri came out this weekend and he got his Knuckle Sandwich on the side (of the car). I can’t say enough about these guys. What a way to start the season.”

This is Langdon’s 10th career win in 141 races. He only had one win last season, which came at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee.
