In his welterweight debut, Henderson won at 3:58 in round 4 from a tap out from a rear-naked choke over Brandon Thatch.
“I always like my chances in the fourth or fifth round,” Henderson said.
With the win, Henderson improved to 22-5. Hatch dropped to 11-2. It is Thatch’s first loss at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, his hometown arena.
“I don’t think I silenced the crowd,” Henderson stated. “The crowd has been crazy. I do all things through Christ.”
Thatch was on a 10-match win streak before this loss. He had more than a year off since defeating Paulo Thiago at UFC Fight Night in Nov. 2013.
This was also Thatch’s second fight that went to the third round or longer. Both were his losses, as all his wins have come in the first round.
Henderson came into the fight with less than a month off. He last fought against Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night when he lost in the third round to a unanimous decision.
This was Henderson’s first fourth round match since June 2014 when he defeated Rustam Khabilov at UFC Fight Night to a rear-naked choke. Khabilov tapped out at 1:16 into the fourth round.
Plus, this snaps a two-match losing streak for Henderson.
“Sometimes, you have to go out there and fight,” Henderson added. “I didn’t know that I could win this fight.”
