Lions escape with an 11-8 win over FDU-Florham in their first game of the season

The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team opened with a win. They defeated FDU Florham Devils, 11-8, this afternoon at Lions Stadium.

The win is the first for the Lions. However, it dropped the Devils to .500 at 1-1 overall.

“I’m really happy that we won,” coach Sharon Pfluger said. “I don’t think we played our best, but it’s only our first game.”

In the second half, Ava Fitzgerald added two more goals. Kendal Borup also scored another, while Erin Healy scored her first of the year. Amanda Muller scored the final goal of the game.

“Ava and Courtney had a great effort,” Pfluger added. “I thought all of them had really great moments. We did well enough to win.”

The Devils saw goals by Courtney Rendinaro and Brianna Capobianco. Joelle Manganella scored twice in the half, while Brienna Reasoner added her second of the game.

The Lions led 6-3 at halftime. Cortney Natalicchio scored a first half halt trick with three goals.

Fitzgerald added two goals, while Borup had the other goal.

Rendinaro had two goals in the first half for the Devils. Reasoner had the other goal.

Lions goaltender Kelly Schlupp made three saves, while giving up 7 goals. Her counterpart, Grace Warburton made five saves and gave up 10 goals.
