Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles made a shocking trade that sent LeSean McCoy packing to the Buffalo Bills to Kiko Alonso. Now, there’s speculation that the Eagles are interested in signing New Orleans Saints free agent running back Mark Ingram.
Ingram is a north-south runner, while McCoy was an elusive east-west back. There was rumblings that last year Eagles head coach Chip Kelly wasn’t pleased with McCoy’s tendency to freelance in his running game.
That same thing also led to the Eagles trading Bryce Brown, which also landed with the Bills.
Ingram is a more assignment-sound runner, which McCoy wasn’t. The 25-year-old is regarded as the second-best back behind Dallas Cowboys free agent back DeMarco Murray.
While the Saints hope to keep him, Ingram is expected to strike big in free agency. There’s already rumors that he could get north of $5 million per season.
With the Saints in 2014, he had 226 rushes for 964 yards in 13 games. He also had four 100 yard rushing games, and nine touchdowns.
He also had 29 receptions for 145 yards.
