With the Eagles, Murray is expected to be in the backfield with fellow running back Ryan Mathews. He came to the Eagles after playing for the San Diego Padres.

Mathews had agreed to a three-year deal with the Eagles on Wednesday. Due to this deal with Murray, it was believed that Mathews’s deal was up in the air on Thursday. However, the sides eventually agreed to terms.

“I don’t think it’s a concern,” Kelly said at Thursday’s news conference. “But I also for us think it’s also part of having Ryan here, is that I would hope DeMarco doesn’t have to carry the ball 392 times this year. If he does we’re running it 692 times.”

Murray was the 2014 NFL Offensive Player of the Year. However, there were a few teams not interested in him, according to sources, due to his career-high 392 carries during the 2014 regular season. Murray also had a career-high 1,845 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.

The ex-Dallas back got nearly identical money that LeSean McCoy received from the Buffalo Bills. McCoy received a five-year, $40 million deal, including $26.05 million in guaranteed money.

McCoy had 312 carries for 1,319 yards in 16 starts. He also had five rushing touchdowns.

After McCoy, the rushing game was nearly non-existent, as Darren Sproles had 329 yards.

Mathews only played in six games in his final season with the Chargers in 2014. He had 74 carries for 330 yards and three touchdowns.
