The Oakland Raiders are expected to sign free agent quarterback Christian Ponder. The deal is expected to be only for the 2015 season.

It is not known yet how much Ponder will get under the one-year deal.

He’s expected to be the back up to starter Derek Carr. With Ponder in the fold, the team could actually release aging veteran Matt Schaub.

He was a bust as a starter early on before Carr took over the job. Schaub made $4.5 million last season and could make $5.5 million if he isn’t released.

Ponder is expected to come at a cheaper price. He made a little more than $1.7 million in the final year of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

During his four-years in Minnesota, Ponder was in-and-out as the starter. Yet, while he may have been on the sidelines, he still collected $10.1 million.
