The Minnesota Timberwolves has announced that head coach Flip Saunders will miss tomorrow’s game against the Toronto Raptors. The press release states that Saunders will miss the game for personal reasons.

It is not known at this time what those personal reasons are, and we may never know what they are. With Saunders out, Sam Mitchell, an assistant coach, will serve as the acting head coach.

Mitchell, who returned to coaching this season after three years away, will be acting as a head coach for the first time since 2008 with the Raptors. He was the Raptors head coach from 2004 through 2008.

With the Raptors, he was 156-189 as their head coach. However, he was just 3 and 9 in the postseason, as the Raptors lost in the first round of the postseason in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

Before being the Raptors head coach, he was the Milwaukee Bucks head coach for two seasons. He also served as the New Jersey Nets assistant coach for one season in 2010-11.
