Detroit Tigers pitcher David Price and the team have begun extension talks. Price is a free agent after this season.

Price said that his agent met with the team last night to discuss the situation. While these are beginning talks, there’s nothing brewing at the moment on a long-term deal.

He said that he wouldn’t call it groundwork on an extension after last night’s talks. He’s owed $19.75 million this season.

Price came to the Tigers from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline last summer.

The 29-year-old went 15-12 last season in 34 games between the Tigers and the Rays. He also had a 3.26 ERA and three complete games over 248 1/3 innings, while striking out 271 and walking 38.

He has a career 86-51 record with one hold over 1,221 1/3 innings. He also has a 3.21 ERA in 181 starts and a 186 appearances.
