As the New York Mets are getting Matt Harvey back to health following Tommy John surgery, another young Mets pitcher could be out for a long time, too.

Jon Niese admitted this morning that he’s battling fatigue in his left shoulder. He said he tweaked his injury during the intrasquad game yesterday.

He’s had shoulder problems each of the last two seasons. With this lingering injury, it’s hard for him to be a 100% ever again.

“I actually felt a lot better,” Niese said. I wasn’t fatigued at the end.”

With this shoulder injury, it’s very hard for him to be ready to go for Opening Day.

Last season, he went 9-11 with a 3.40 ERA in 30 games. He also had a 138 strikeouts and 45 walks in 187 2/3 innings.
