It was believed that the New Orleans Saints would draft a quarterback. As Drew Brees inches closer to retirement, the team was going to target a quarterback; however, it was not sure when they would pick one.

Manning went in the second round to the Saints. The team is hoping that he can be just as good as Manning, or his sons Peyton or Eli when he does take over for Brees whenever that may be.
While Grayson becomes the first quarterback picked in the first three rounds since 1971 by the Saints, both the Arizona Cardinals and the Buffalo Bills picked 10 each in the first three rounds in that same period.
In his four years of college football, Grayson went 688 of 1,113 for 9,190 yards in 37 games. He had 64 touchdown passes and 27 interceptions.

During the 2014 season, his final college football season, Grayson went 270 of 420 for 4,006 passing yards in 13 games. He had 32 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
The 4,006 passing yards were the most he had during his college career. It was nearly 400 more yards than the 2013 season when he had 3,696 yards.
He also had nine more touchdowns in 2014 than he did in 2013 when he had 23 touchdown passes.
In the past two seasons, he has accounted for 7,702 passing yards.
